If the rains have inspired you to refocus on your garden then the Friends of Geelong Botanic Gardens Autumn Plant Sale being held this weekend is a must.  The sale is being held at the Gardens from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 April.

Geelong gardeners have rejoiced in the recent rains and cooler weather that has brought a much hoped for reprieve for plants which have been struggling over summer.  However the ongoing need to conserve water and use plants more suitable for local growing conditions is still at the forefront of every water-wise gardener's mind.

Plants for this weekend's sale have been selected from the Botanic Gardens' collection which will tolerate dry conditions.

"Volunteers of the Friends of the Geelong Botanic Gardens take a very water-wise approach and have been busy propagating and growing a diverse range of interesting drought tolerant plants in readiness for this autumn plant sale" said Roz Hill of the Friends group said.

City of Greater Geelong Parks and Gardens portfolio holder Cr Barbara Abley encouraged residents to check out the plant sale.

"The drought tolerant plants will be for sale at reasonable prices, and the Friends of the Geelong Botanic Gardens will be on hand to give advice on what plants are best suited to particular garden types."

"Plus the funds that are raised by the plant sale will go back into the Friends group's many great community programs," Cr Abley said.

Plants for sale will include colourful salvias, ever-popular succulents, hardy perennials and ground covers, herbs, bulbs, shade tolerant plants, shrubs and trees.

The sale will be held in the nursery, which is situated at the rear of the Gardens where there is also a car park for easy access.  For further information on the Autumn Plant Sale phone the Friends of the Geelong Botanic Gardens on 5222 6053.
