Under local laws, there's a limit to the number of animals you can keep on your property.
If the number you want to keep exceeds the number determined by Council (see the table below), you need to apply for a permit.
These regulations are designed to ensure animal populations are controlled in all areas and to safeguard the animals' health and wellbeing. They are not aimed at stopping people from keeping animals on their properties.
When a person applies to keep three or more animals of the same type on their property, a Council officer will inspect the premises and outline any conditions. The applicant must pay for the inspection and the permit, and a fee per animal.
Current fees are:
New Application: $100.00
Renewal of permit:$40.00
- Residential: 2 dogs, 2 cats
- Business: 2 dogs, 2 cats
- Industrial: 2 dogs, 2 cats
- Other residential, business or industrial land: 4 dogs, 4 cats
- Rural land: 4 dogs, 4 cats
