Animals found lost or abandoned are kept for eight days at the local animal shelter. Contact Animal Welfare on 5248 2091.
What happens to impounded animals?
When Council officers impound an animal, they generally return it home if they can identify the owner. That's where registration tags are so important.
If the owner cannot be identified, Council transfers it to the Geelong Animal Welfare Society's animal shelter, at the corner of Portarlington and Pt Henry Roads in Moolap. If an animal is impounded outside normal working hours, it will be transferred immediately to the animal shelter.
When claiming an animal from the shelter, a fee applies for the retrieval of the animal. Contact the shelter on 5248 2091. You may also be subjected to any penalties which may be applicable for any offences which your animal may have committed.
