Community Development aims to bring people together to contribute to and take part in community.
 
Community Development unites the efforts of people to bring about change, develop projects and participate in local activities. This happens through the promotion of collective action to bring a community's preferences to the attention of political decision-makers and service providers.
 
Community Development emphasises self and collective empowerment, mutual support, shared community pride and the development of neighbourhood capacities for problem-solving.
 

 What is community

in terms of community development it is seen as a group of people with some common identity and connection which may be based on;

menu_arrow Cultural identify ethnicity, race, age, belief system
menu_arrow Activity: workplace, hobbies, recreation. social group, service user, education, religion, politics etc 
menu_arrow Special Interest: housing, gaming, gender, disability, sexuality and neighbourhood houses etc.
 
A strong vibrant community is one that has and supports social networks, creates economic advantage, shares common values, allows for and encourages cultural and social expression, cares for its people and strives for personal, complimentary and civic participation.
 

 Community Development values are:

 The City of Greater Geelong's Community Development Department engages the
