BB Duck is a blue-billed duck living in the wetlands around Geelong (including Lake Connewarre, Reedy Lake, Werribee Farm & Chirnside Primes Swamp). He eats aquatic insect larvae and the leaves and seeds of freshwater plants.
He is an endangered species as only 12,000 blue-billed ducks remain in Australia. This is because their habitat is shrinking rapidly. Now it is very fragile and needs to be protected. Keeping our drainage systems clean is a big way of helping.
Because of this, BB Duck has been chosen as the mascot for the City of Greater Geelong's new Recycling & Waste System. He symbolises the importance of protecting our local environment for future generations.
