Stormwater pits and pit lids
Enquiries reporting blocked or overflowing pits or broken or dislodged lids, should be directed to (03) 5227 0530.
Drainage structures
Enquiries relating to drainage structures, such as Litter Traps, Concrete Beaching, Gabions, Retention Basins, Flood Gates and Valves, Soakage Pits or Out Falls should also be directed to (03) 5227 0530.
Legal point of discharge
Stormwater falling on any building or development must be collected and directed through underground pipes to a legal point of discharge. This is normally a:
- Council drain in the street
- Council drain in an easement
- Private drain if suitable.
Individual houses, dual occupancies or small shops may pipe the stormwater to the kerb and channel in the street adjacent to the property if there are no underground drains nearby.
Where is my legal point of discharge?
Contact Council's Subdivisions Department for the location of the legal point of discharge for individual properties (a fee applies).
Extension of Melbourne Water's boundary.
In June 2004, the Victorian Government released its Our Water Our Future action plan to secure the State's water resources for the future.
A key action from this was the extension of Melbourne Water's rivers and drainage boundary by almost 5000 square kilometres to cover the majority of the Port Phillip and Westernport catchment.
