Local legend convict-escapee William Buckley is the subject of two of the Gallery's works. These are by W. Blamire Young and Oswald Campbell.
Since 1896 the Gallery has amassed a comprehensive collection of 19th and 20th century Australian and European paintings. Interspersed throughout the nine galleries are exhibitions of decorative arts, including 18th and 19th century English porcelain, British art pottery, colonial Australian silver, as well as contemporary Australian paintings, sculpture and ceramics.
The Gallery Shop is an exhibition in itself with products and works from a variety of local artists, demonstrating the diversity and uniqueness of the region.
