The Geelong Short Play Festival 2026
Various dates from Friday 14 August to Saturday 15 August
The Geelong Short Play Festival returns in 2026 after the highly successful inaugural season in November 2025.
Once again local writers have submitted over 30 one act plays. The judges have chosen the six finalists for this year’s festival in August. As with last year, the emphasis is on the quality of the text and performances.
A range of themes are explored through the talents of local performers from six local theatre companies. We meet a range of people who make up the characters in the six plays including three longtime friends who gather each week for their Thirsty Thursday catch up, we see four siblings who gather after the death of their father, we meet a reclusive rock star who reveals something lifechanging during a podcast, we see into the future with a man who has a lifetime mortgage, we join a local MP who has ‘a moment’ at a press conference, and encounter two men on a beach reflecting on life.
Prizes will be awarded for the best script, best actor, and best production. The audience at each performance will get a chance to vote for their favourite play.
Last year was a sellout - don't miss this amazing collection of talent from our local writers and performers.
