Advocacy

To ensure Geelong realises its full economic powerhouse potential and becomes Australia's premier regional city, collaboration between three levels of government, community, business and industry is essential.

The City of Greater Geelong and other partners, including Committee for Geelong advocate to Australian and Victorian governments to secure funding for community projects

As the fastest-growing regional city in Australia, the City must advocate for the collective interests of our broader region including the continuous expansion and improvement of infrastructure and services.

The City's advocacy approach, as detailed in our Advocacy Framework 2024, needs to be multi-faceted, agile and responsive providing opportunities for Victoria's largest regional City to not only have a voice, but a voice with impact where it is most needed.

Championing the City's Priority Projects and making submissions to Victorian and Australia Government to influence policy are key components of our advocacy work.

Our framework helps us strategically advance our region’s interests. It includes our main priorities, and the actions needed to achieve our goals, based on our existing strategies and community vision.

2026 City of Greater Geelong Priority Projects

Geelong is growing rapidly, with the Victorian Government setting the City of Greater Geelong the highest housing target in the state, and our population expected to reach over 400,000 by 2041. We are advocating to the Victorian and Australian Governments to invest in the City’s Priority Projects to enable sustainable growth across our region.  We seek funding commitments from election candidates ahead of the 2026 Victorian Government Election to deliver these key projects if their respective party wins government.

Highlights of our comprehensive Priority Projects list includes:
