The City of Greater Geelong has allocated additional resources to prepare for the more than 10 000 people a day expected to visit the Eastern Beach area this Christmas and New Year period.
Crews will double the number of rubbish bins and provide eight skips 10 portable toilets more dedicated cleaners and extra contracted waste collections each day.
There will be increased cleaning of toilets and park areas an expanded lifeguard roster and coverage across the day and traffic management crews at the Ritchie Boulevard car park to avoid long queues of vehicles.
Increased Local Laws patrols of the area will monitor potential issues such as open fires and illegal parking and camping in addition to Victoria Police’s planned presence and focus on drinking traffic and behaviour.
There will be live monitoring of CCTV and electronic signs will reinforce messaging warning against open alcohol in public fires and camping.
Visitors are encouraged to respect the community facilities and dispose of waste and recycling in the provided bins.
Items like nappies cotton buds sanitary items and wipes (even the ones labelled as flushable) should always be disposed of in the bin rather than the toilet.
Products other than toilet paper do not break down in public toilets and cause blockages and overflows.
