We are seeking input from the community and user groups to help improve two of the region’s significant shared trails.

We are developing design concepts for both the Barwon River Loop Trail project and the Bay Trail Revitalisation project, both priorities within the approved 2020 Shared Trails Master Plan and is inviting feedback on the current issues and ideas that will assist in producing the best possible result for the community.

The Barwon River Loop Trail project is a 700-metre shared trail which will extend the existing trail from Mt Brandon Reserve on the southern side of the Barwon River in Highton to cross over to Fyansford, providing a link to existing and future trails. The project will include planning and design for a bridge crossing over the Barwon River and will create a loop trail.

The Bay Trail Revitalisation project is a nine-kilometre section of existing shared trail from North Shore, through to Western Beach Foreshore along the Geelong Waterfront. The aim of this project is to resolve key issues and revitalise the trail.

Greater Geelong Deputy Mayor Anthony Aitken

The trails are significant in linking and connecting communities and creating high quality off-road trail experiences growing tourism and the visitor economy within the City of Greater Geelong. These projects have a vital role to play in connecting the broader shared trail network. The Barwon River Loop Trail is important in contributing to the completion of a return loop for the Barwon River Trail in the future, while the Bay Trail Revitalisation is the number one priority as it connects our northern communities to central Geelong and the waterfront.

I urge walkers, cyclists, runners and all users to contribute to the conversation.

The information is a vital part of the City’s planning and helps us make decisions to ensure our shared trail projects meet the needs of the local community.

The aim of this first round of engagement is to gather the community’s ideas to help in the creation of draft concept plans for the two trails.

Once the draft concept plans have been developed, the City will seek further community feedback before presenting final plans to the Council for consideration sometime in 2023.

For more specific detail on the respective projects, along with an opportunity to contribute to the conversation, go to: Planning for Geelong's Shared Trails | Have Your Say

The engagement closes at 5pm on 23 December 2022.
