Secondary work experience  

Work experience is the short-term placement of secondary school students with employers, to provide insights into the industry and the workplace.

• Generally, students are in year 10 however can be year 11 or 12 students
• Short term placement of either a one-week block (full time or part time) or one day per week for 5–7 weeks
• The purpose is for students to observe and learn and not to undertake activities which require extensive training or experience
• $5 per day is payable to the student upon completion of the placement
• 'Volunteer' Working with Children Check (WWCC) is not required for students under the age of 18
• Police check is only required for students over the age of 18 years and is initiated and paid for by the City

Structured workplace learning

Structured workplace learning provides students with the opportunity to integrate on-the-job experience with secondary study.

Secondary students complete on-the-job training whilst enrolled in an accredited course and is undertaken as part of VCE.

• Placements are generally one day per week for 20 weeks
• $5 per day is payable to the student
• Working with Children Check (WWCC) is not required for students under the age of 18
• Police check is only required for students over the age of 18 years and is initiated and paid for by the City

Secondary Work Experience and Structured Workplace Learning placements are supported by Geelong Region Local Learning and Employment Network (LLEN) and schools will be notified of opportunities for students to express their interest.
