The City leads the Barwon Southwest Vaping Prevention Coalition.
Youth vape prevention project

This project is part of the Vape-Free Victoria initiative and is funded by a $200,000 grant from VicHealth. It brings together young people, schools, libraries, and community groups to help reduce the harms of vaping.
In 2025, our Youth Development Unit worked with CatholicCare Victoria Settle Well, Northern Bay College and North Geelong Secondary College, and a vape prevention action group (an after-school group of young leaders) to create vaping prevention resources. This group also gave feedback on the resources and endorse the introduction of vape recycling bins at The fOrT and The NEST youth hubs.

Did you know that vapes can’t be thrown out into any of your kerbside bins?
Classified as e-waste, vapes contain batteries, plastic and harmful chemicals that pollute the environment and cause fires in rubbish trucks and landfills.
To support the community to dispose of these devices safely, dedicated vape recycling bins are now available at the following locations:
The Nest Youth Hub - 17 Gheringhap Street, Geelong
The fOrT Youth Hub - Crn Melbourne and St Georges Rd, Norlane
Geelong Resource Recovery Centre - 21 Slevin Street, North Geelong
