In the busy and growing Armstrong Creek area, it's not just the skyline that's changing. As more people move in, we need better roads and services, all while making sure folks can still get around easily.

Every year, we handle over 500 applications from companies and service providers who need approval to work on our roads.

Most of these projects are small and don 't bother the community much. But in growing areas like Armstrong Creek, upgrading roads is a bigger job. These upgrades happen in stages, with developers paying for the work as they sell new house lots.

Our top priority is keeping main roads clear so emergency vehicles can reach people quickly.

By strategically combining nearby works and delaying the start dates for other requested works, we aim to reduce the frequency of road closures and traffic restrictions, ensuring a smoother experience for residents and commuters alike.

Where works are expected to cause significant disruption, we place conditions on the approval permit for public notification of the period of works. 

Communication can extend from letter drops, newspaper advertisements and social media posts to dedicated webpages and variable message boards onsite.

State versus local

It's important to note that while we oversee roadworks on council-managed roads, we do not control works on State-managed roads or major construction projects managed by the State Government, such as the rail duplication project.

Common Questions

We sometimes leave a road closed when we are not onsite to stop damage to the new surface.

When we put new rock down on a road it needs to be wet to help it stick together.  We then need to let the rock dry out before we seal the road.  If the rock is wet we can't seal it.

If cars drive on the road whilst the rock is wet it damages the road and will delays us from putting down the seal causing the road to remain closed for longer.

Road work speed limits are designed to keep both drivers and road workers safe.

Even when nobody is working on the road there can still be dangers from the work underway. 

These dangers can include:

  • narrow lane widths
  • barriers very close to traffic lanes
  • deep trenches
  • loose gravel on the road
  • soft road surfaces, or
  • humps and drops in the road.

Some dangers are easy to spot during the day, but much harder to see at night.  A lower speed limit gives you more time to see the danger and avoid a crash
