Civil infrastructure standards

We are responsible for ensuring the performance and service life of civil infrastructure in Greater Geelong is achieved.

On behalf of the Greater Geelong community, we are the custodians of City-owned civil infrastructure assets such as roads, footpaths and drainage.

We have established standards for civil infrastructure that will become our responsibility. We do not accept civil infrastructure that does not meet these minimum standards. We may accept a higher standard, subject to written approval being sought and granted before works commence. Ultimately, we will inherit responsibility for the asset and we need to ensure it meets our standards for the community now and into the future.

The provision of civil infrastructure within Greater Geelong must be in accordance with the general principles of the Sustainable Communities - Infrastructure Development Guidelines.

The following documents provide the standards for which civil infrastructure must comply in Greater Geelong:

  1. The Infrastructure Design Manual (IDM) provides the minimum standards for civil infrastructure across regional Victoria, regardless of who constructs it – the City, a developer, or a contractor
  2. Our Design Notes supplement the IDM and provide additional and amending design information specific to civil infrastructure in Greater Geelong
  3. Our Civil Infrastructure Standard Drawings supplement the IDM and design notes with design information specific to civil infrastructure in Greater Geelong
