Roads and responsible authorities
General information
The state government and local councils are road authorities in Victoria.
The state government – via the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) - is responsible for maintaining main roads bridges highways and freeways. DTP is also responsible for road safety road rules and speed limits across Victoria.
Local councils across Victoria are responsible for maintaining local roads – we are responsible for local roads within Greater Geelong.
