Traffic monitoring cameras - City of Greater Geelong

City of Greater Geelong traffic monitoring cameras are strategically installed at crossing points, intersections and other critical areas to collect valuable data on vehicle and pedestrian movements, providing crucial insights for future infrastructure upgrades and safety measures.

Our cameras do not record number plates or faces so no personal details are captured.

The traffic monitoring camera aims to gain data to improve roads and safety by monitoring traffic at key locations across Greater Geelong.

Cameras are placed at crossings intersections and other important areas to collect valuable data on vehicle and pedestrian movements providing important insights for future road safety upgrades. They are temporary and low - cost collecting data on how cars and pedestrians move. This information helps us understand traffic flow and plan future improvements.

The cameras only work during study periods and use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to analyse traffic data. Privacy and data security are very important. We follow the National Framework for AI in Government which ensures data security and responsible AI use.

Cameras stay at one location for about four weeks before being moved to a new spot in Greater Geelong. This helps us understand traffic patterns and safety issues allowing us to make better decisions about infrastructure and traffic management.
