Never bag items in your yellow bin, always tip them in loose. It is an offence under the local law to put rubbish or contamination in your recycling bin.

Tips

  • Do not put paper bags or cardboard boxes full of recycling in your bin. Even though these bags and boxes are recyclable, they are compacted in the truck, making it impossible to sort the items inside.
  • If you’re not sure if a plastic can be recycled, check it is labelled with plastic numbers 1,2 or 5, and then give it a squeeze! If it goes back to its original shape, it’s a hard plastic and is safe to put in your recycle bin.
  • Food containers don't need to be spotless, a quick rinse or scrape to remove bits of food is enough.
  • Put items made of different materials in separately, for instance, remove a metal lid from a glass jar before putting both in your recycling bin.
