What is the best advice you have received in your creative career?
“Stop looking for The Third Thing.”
I came across this piece of advice a few years ago and it's really changed the way that I approach my career. Rather than concentrating on The Third Thing (acknowledgment, recognition or what you’re going to get back), allow yourself to focus on the creative process and the fact that you get the chance to share this thing that you’ve made with the world.

What other local artists inspire you? Why?
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Lucinda Goodwin and Pat Callow for several years now and I think that they’re amazing photographers. I’m always in awe of the way they’re able to capture the joy and energy that comes from playing live shows. Watching how they’ve both developed (no pun intended) in their artform, through thousands of hours supporting local artists like myself is incredibly inspiring.

How does your connection to Geelong or place inspire your work?
I was born and raised in Geelong, so I feel like it’s in my bones. The experience of growing up here, the people I’ve loved and lost, the streets I’ve walked a million times; these are all present in my stories and songs. From my first solo release in 2011, Deviation Road, to my latest album ‘Something Rare and Beautiful’, I’ve always subconsciously or at times very intentionally, included geographical and historical references to my hometown in my work.
