The large wall space at this building owned by Elaine and Anthony Costa was calling out for a better purpose. The Anthony Costa Foundation already had a relationship with the Bluebird Foundation, a local not for profit dedicated to providing quality arts programs that make a real difference in people’s lives. The opportunity to bring these elements together in a community project to create a mural of meaning seemed like the perfect match.

The result is an amazing street art installation that celebrates some of Geelong’s young leaders and the vibrant communities that hold them including:

• Tarryn Love a proud Gunditjimara Keeray Woorrong woman who has grown up on Wadawurrung country who is an artist committed to exploring the theoretical and political value of First Nation arts practice and her mob.

• Quinn Earth Child a queer permaculturalist, artist and musician who is seeking to inspire radical sustainable change in the Northern suburbs of Geelong and the Friends of Cowies Creek.

• Mutheinchri a Karenni refugee, currently studying to become a NAATI certified translator who is passionate about supporting her local Karenni community to live their best lives here in Geelong and the Drawn Together artistic collective.

The installation was created by Laura Alice, a local artist who has made a name for herself through her inky paintings and street art. She has a passion for using art to share untold stories and through this project she highlights the incredible diversity of the Geelong community, shining a light on some of the young people quietly leading the way in our region.

In addition to the artwork, the installation also includes an augmented-reality show. That means when you point your smart phone at the artwork the wall will come alive with beautiful animations, interwoven with music and the voices of the young leaders highlighted.
