Peloton
Peloton consists of six circular sculptures that have at their conceptual heart a reference to a group of freewheeling cyclists invigorated by a shared experience. Collectively the works can be seen as a loose formation of like-minded competitors in a peloton or singularly as cyclists engaged in their own personal pursuit.
Peloton also explores the visual possibility of circular forms and fans. The fans embody energy, fun and dynamism.
The circular structures are a visual counterbalance, but they also make an immediate reference to wheels and motion.
Apart from colour and form, each component of Peloton has the potential to create a distinct personal narrative because at the base of each unit there is the space to imbed an inscription that relates to the history of cycling in Geelong.
Peloton will hopefully be a lasting creative interpretation of Geelong’s rich cycling past, present and future; a visually stimulating and interactive sculpture for an active and dynamic public space in a revitalized central Geelong.
