Ross calls upon eternal themes of life and its cyclical, karmic nature. The shape conjures up images of our planet, engaged in its orbital dance, the home of all life and nourishment. On a micro scale we are also called to think of other restorative spaces – a cave or a womb.
As we gaze upon Sphere, Ross guides our eye not to its surface, but to the negative spaces he has created with his intricate welding.
The viewer contemplates the internal “den” of the sphere, and the promise of protection and renewal.
