Where We Come Together

Located at the Stead Park Hockey Ground, this artwork highlights the very special place that is Hockey Geelong. When asked what makes this place important to them, the young members of this club described it as their second home, a place to have fun, relax, and create memories with friends and family; their favourite place to be. This piece brings together their ideas to tell a story of connection and belonging.

Across the top of the peiece are several meeting places, with the largest representing Hockey Geelong at Stead Park. These are connected to two additional meeting places, symbolising the homes and communities of its members. Across the opposite side of the Barwon Yaluk (Barwon River) are those who travel from other parts of Naarm (Melbourne) and beyond to play hockey and gather at this special place.

The U-shaped forms represent the people who make up Hockey Geelong, an inclusive space that welcomes individuals from all walks of life, regardless of background, ability, or personal attributes. The shells and Warri (sea) reference the nearby Corio Bay, meaning “sandy place,” a significant cultural feature of Wadawurrung Country."
