#@!*+ Art Show and Open Mic Poetry night, 6:30 PM, Saturday April 18th at The House - 8 Centrepoint Arcade, Geelong. Free to read poetry, free to enter art (including photography), and no commissions taken from sales! Art and poetry for the people, by the people. One night of art and poetry, followed by a month-long art display in Centrepoint Arcade.

What does #@!*+ mean as a theme? It’s up for interpretation. Expletives, symbology, mistakes, keypads, rage and frustration, pictography, censorship, confusion, sexuality, energy, the theme is yours to understand personally. 

Who are artists that display the theme in their art? Tracey Emin, Toshio Saeki, Xaime Hernandez, Frida Kahlo, Ray Pettibon, Yoko Ono, Ana Mendieta, and Andres Serrano are all artists who embody the theme in one way or another, but again, it’s about how you interpret #@!*+.

Do you want to read at open-mic poetry? Sign up on the night! Your poems don’t need to be on theme. 

Do you want to exhibit #@!*+ themed art? Your piece(s) don’t need to be finished yet - you should still apply. Follow these steps:

Email [email protected] with the title “April art show”

Provide your:

• Name
• Title(s) of work(s) - you can enter up to 3 pieces
• The means by which each piece will be mounted (e.g. frame and hung; stood on table; etc)
• Price of each work (if you wish to sell)
• Information for the public (e.g. social media)
• Affirmation that you will drop your work off at The House on Thursday April 16th between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
• Affirmation that you want your art to be displayed in and sold by the House for one month following the event.

Your piece doesn’t need to be done yet - you can sign up first! Entries close Wednesday April 15th at 11:59 PM.

The House will take care of sales, and the artist will receive 100% of their asking price.
All mediums are accepted. All art must be your own. No AI “art”.
