Join guest curator Alisa Bunbury for a closer look at Eric Thake's work during the Second World War.

This exhibition features both well-known and rarely seen paintings produced during Thake’s service as a war artist for the RAAF (1944-46) as well as studies in his sketchbooks. Alisa will share her research into Thake’s experiences in Australia and then then-Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), his visual responses, influenced by British Surrealism, and his own personal accounts from letters written to his wife Grace. Discover how this fascinating period shaped his artistic practice and inspired some of his most compelling and thought-provoking works.
