Geelong Major Events (GME) is a Delegated Committee of the City of Greater Geelong, established under section 63 of the Local Government Act 2020. The purpose of GME is to support the growth of existing events and proactively search for and acquire new events for the region.
GME’s vision is to establish Geelong as Australia’s premier regional destination for events, where major events deliver exceptional outcomes for Geelong that elevate the region’s reputation on the national stage.
Applications are sought from interested people with experience relevant to the events, arts and culture, music, sports or business sectors.
All GME Committee positions are voluntary.
The following information is provided to applicants to enable a better understanding of the role of the Geelong Major Events Committee:
As a member of a delegated committee, you will be required to complete Personal Interests Returns in accordance with Division 3 of Part 6 (sections 132 to 136) of the Act. The Local Government (Governance and Integrity) Regulations 2020 set out the detail that must be provided and a summary of your return will be published on the City’s internet site.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an interview the week commencing 10 April 2026.
2026 - 2030 Geelong Major Events Committee members will be announced following the Council meeting in June 2026.
