Assessors sought for grants panel

We are looking for community representatives to join our Community Grants Assessment Panel.
The panel is responsible for reviewing grant applications and making funding recommendations to Council. In 2021-2022, over $4 million in funding is available to assist the community, arts, cultural, sporting, recreation, heritage and environment sectors.
The community representative roles are voluntary and membership of the panel is for three years.
To apply, you must:
- be a City of Greater Geelong resident
- understand the barriers and challenges facing different members of the community
- value fairness, community access, diversity and inclusion
- have access to a computer or laptop, as well as internet access.
Applications close on Wednesday 4 August 2021 at 5:00pm.
If we receive more suitable applications than the number of positions available, applications will be assessed against the eligibility criteria set out above, and the desire to reflect the diversity of our community. You will be emailed the outcome of your application by 3 September 2021.
About the grants
We provide annual grants to community groups, clubs and organisations to develop positive and beneficial projects that help deliver on the community’s clever and creative vision and the Council’s priority actions.
About the role
Community assessors will review applications relevant to their interest, expertise and availability. At a minimum, panellists will be expected to use their own time to assess approximately 50 online applications over a two-week period.
Following the assessment period, the panel will then meet once face-to-face (or online, if required by COVID-19 restrictions) to agree on final funding recommendations.
Panel review periods
Panel members are required during September and October 2021
Please note:
- dates are subject to change depending on the availability of panel members, volume of grant applications and whether or not a second round of grants are offered
- assessment periods for years 2 and 3 of the panel are likely to be similar as those in 2021-2022.
Training and support
All community members will go through a thorough induction and receive training to help them use SmartyGrants, our grants assessment software.
We will also provide ongoing support throughout the assessment period to answer questions or assist with technical issues..
Expenses
While the positions are unpaid, we will reimburse panel members for all expenses incurred when attending face-to-face meetings, such as transport and meals.
Exclusions and confidentiality
Community panel members cannot apply for any City of Greater Geelong grants during their term. Please take this into consideration before applying.
All assessors will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement guaranteeing that they will not share information about unsuccessful applications, or the grants assessment process.
