City invites feedback on central Geelong flood extent map

Thursday, 15th May 2025

The City of Greater Geelong is asking the community to give feedback on stage two of the Central Geelong Stormwater Management Strategy. This includes providing feedback on a draft map that shows where flooding could occur.

The goals of the Central Geelong Stormwater Management Strategy are to better understand flash flooding behaviour in the catchment and seek practical solutions to reduce flooding.

The flood mapping has been developed using advanced computer models incorporating the latest catchment data. Feedback from the first round of community engagement was used to help verify the modelling outcomes.

We invite the community to review the new flood map and give feedback. Visit our Have Your Say page to view the map and leave comments. The page also has fact sheets with summarised flood mitigation options.

We will be hosting three in-person information sessions at Wurriki Nyal on:

  • Friday 23 May 5:30 pm
  • Monday 26 May 6:00 pm
  • Thursday 29 May 10:00 am.

Each session will include a brief presentation on flood extent and potential mitigation options, followed by a Q&A session.

Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM

Stage two consultation will run until Friday 13 June.

We’ve made it easy for residents to get involved, whether online through our interactive mapping tool or in person at our upcoming information sessions.

The updated flood extent map is based on the latest data and modelling, but community insights are vital to make sure it reflects local knowledge and lived experience.
