City invites input into Aldershot Reserve Playground Renewal
The City of Greater Geelong is inviting residents to share their ideas for the renewal of Aldershot Reserve in St Albans Park.
The City is asking for community input into what the playground might look like.
The design will be guided by residents’ feedback, with preliminary plans to be shared in the new year.
The possibilities are many. Should it be a natural or a more contemporary design? What type of play equipment should it feature?
It’s up to the community to help guide what’s included.
A ‘district’ level playground provides a wider range of play opportunities than a local play space and covers a greater catchment area.
These playgrounds are strategically located within larger reserves or sporting reserves and cater for a range of age groups.
District level playgrounds typically have open space for informal games, while also providing some all-abilities play elements, along with amenities such as BBQ and shelters.
The renewal of Aldershot Reserve is a part of the City’s playground renewal program and in line with the City’s Play Strategy.
Playground renewal makes sure there is somewhere to:
- run
- swing
- slide and
- climb.
The opportunity comes following Council’s work in recent years with the community to develop a new masterplan for the reserve that will better meet the needs of residents.
The masterplan was endorsed in March 2021 and includes entry garden, improved path network, new play space, bike pump track, dog park, open spaces, and fitness area.
Now the City is inviting input into a plan for renewal of the existing playground and supporting features such as paths, shelter, park furniture, landscaping, and trees.
The City has an online tool where the community can help inform the renewal priorities within the reserve.

Interested residents can also meet with City officers at Aldershot Reserve to share their ideas on:
- Wednesday 22 November 2023 between 3:00pm and 6:00pm
- Saturday 2 December 2023 between 10:00am to 1:00pm.
The engagement period closes at 5:00pm on Monday 11 December 2023.
Mayor Trent Sullivan
I encourage residents to have their say on the plans.
As our city grows, so do our needs for play, relaxation and recreation, and the opportunity to socialise in outdoor spaces within our suburbs.
The information that is shared will help us gain a clearer picture of what the community is wanting in the Aldershot Reserve Playground.
Councillor Peter Murrihy - Brownbill Ward
We really want this playground to meet the community’s needs and expectations.
St Albans Park is continuing to grow and there are many families who will be keen to make use of this playground.
The City wants to see this public space used to its full potential, so it’s important that residents take part in this process and help us refine the plans in accordance with community expectations.
