As part of the update, the City's website will be accessible at geelongcity.vic.gov.au, replacing the geelongaustralia.com.au domain name, making the organisation's web presence consistent with other local governments in Victoria.

The old address will continue to redirect for a period of time. 

While the content and functions of the website remain the same, the new look brings it towards current accessibility and usability standards, after the previous website dated back to 2011. 

Behind the scenes, significant improvements have been made to the website's infrastructure, resulting in a faster, more efficient experience that works well on phones, tablets and desktops. 

The updates will also ensure the website is ready to adapt and grow as new technologies develop.

We know people are used to using the website as it hasn't changed in over a decade, but as digital technology has well and truly evolved since then, this update was needed to ensure our website will continue to serve our residents well into the future.

It was no longer sustainable to keep maintaining a system that was first conceived over 15 years ago. 

The new website has the same content and functionality, just on a new platform and design that meets modern standards for accessibility while recognising that most people these days use our website on mobiles and tablets. 

The website attracts 180,000 searches each month, and it's often the first way that people interact with us, so it's vital that we get it right and align it with modern expectations.
