The City of Greater Geelong has welcomed the potential for increased programming at Geelong West Neighbourhood House and Geelong Rainbow Inc following recent renovations to the Autumn Street centre.

The Geelong West Neighbourhood House offers a range of Creative Arts, Health and Wellbeing programs, along with Self Sufficiency and Sustainability classes and workshops.

Meanwhile, the Neighbourhood House also provides a base for Geelong Rainbow Inc, a not-for-profit organisation committed to creating awareness, providing support, and enabling connections for members of the LGBTIQA+ community.

The Victorian Government contributed $65,000 in funding - through the Department of Jobs Precinct and Regions, Living Local - Regional Grants Program - to renovate the interior layout of the building, in doing so increasing capacity for programming for both the Neighbourhood House and Geelong Rainbow Inc.

The total project cost $200,000, with the renovations, delivered by the City of Greater Geelong, including the development of two permanent, sound-proofed bookable spaces and renewal of the exterior toilet.

The centre was re-opened on Tuesday 2 May 2023.

Visit the Geelong West Neighbourhood House website learn more about the programs on offer.

Christine Couzens - Member for Geelong

This new interior renovation will enable the Geelong West Neighbourhood House and Geelong Rainbow to run programs in a more user-friendly space.

We are pleased to support the Geelong West Neighbourhood House to continue to provide the Geelong community with activities and a valued local meeting place.

Mayor Trent Sullivan

I welcome the renovations as the transformation of the building will support the Neighbourhood House in delivering additional courses to meet community demand.

The Geelong West Neighbourhood House has played a vital role in the community since it was formed in 2009.

The City is delighted with the support of the Victorian Government in developing the centre to meet the increasing need for low-cost classes.

The programs support our residents in this region to find a healthy life balance and increase fitness, while participating in a variety of creative arts activities.

Councillor Anthony Aitken - Deputy Mayor

I thank the Victorian Government for its contribution to supporting renovations of the Geelong West Neighbourhood House.

We all understand the value of community and the Geelong West Neighbourhood House offers programs that go a long way to providing opportunities for like-minded people to come together and share their skills and interests.

The centre is also significant to the region’s LGBTIQA+ community, as Geelong Rainbow Inc. plays a pivotal role in our community by providing programs that raise awareness of the Rainbow community, along with supporting and encouraging connection for in dividuals.
