City seeking feedback on the proposed sale of land in Ocean Grove
Council voted at its last meeting to commence community engagement regarding the sale of land at The Parade and The Terrace in Ocean Grove.
The engagement follows the adoption of the Ocean Grove Urban Design Framework (UDF) in 2014, which included recommendations to consider Council-owned land suitable for sale and redevelopment.
The City is considering selling:
- A reserve, measuring approximately 380 square metres at 94 The Parade, Ocean Grove, which would first be rezoned from public park and recreation zone (PPRZ) to commercial 1 zone (C1Z).
- Land being used as a carpark, measuring approximately 1,623 square metres at 89-91 The Terrace, Ocean Grove, which is zoned C1Z. If sold, the land will be incorporated into the development of the adjoining land.
The proceeds of the sale would be reinvested into improving public spaces throughout the precinct, improving connectivity to the retail and commercial centre of Ocean Grove.
Provisions will also ensure no net loss to the current number of car parking spaces in any redevelopment.
Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM:
By reinvesting the proceeds of the sale of this land back into Ocean Grove, this is a real opportunity for long-term improvements to this area.
Importantly, there will be no net loss in the number of car parks, as these would be recreated in any development.
Connewarre Ward Councillor Elise Wilkinson:
The engagement process must capture the breadth of views in the community, so make sure you head to the website before 28 March so that your views can be recorded.
This process is all about reflecting the wishes of the Ocean Grove community to see improved public amenity and opportunities for development.
The full proposal can be viewed on the Have Your Say page, with feedback closing on Friday 28 March 2025.
