The City of Greater Geelong is seeking providers to deliver a range of business support programs that will fuel economic growth and innovation.

The City of Greater Geelong is seeking providers to deliver a range of business support programs that will fuel economic growth and innovation.

Greater Geelong is an ideal place to do business given its strategic location, environment, air and seaports, skilled workforce and other capabilities.

It is also growing at a rapid rate, with a population of more than 280,000 people who live here for its attractive lifestyle, diversifying economy, and welcoming community.

To continue harnessing these competitive advantages, this project aims for the City to expand its capability to deliver tailored resources at no or low cost to businesses, along with expert guidance, networking opportunities, and practical tools to encourage them to start, grow, and thrive.

The programs will ensure that Greater Geelong continues to sharpen its economic capabilities while creating opportunities for innovation and further diversification of its economy and supply chains.

The aim is for programs to cover a range of potential topics, including best practice in business basics, business resilience, financial management, leadership, circular economy and sustainability, and improving diversity and inclusion in supply chains and customers.

Expressions of Interest (EOIs) are now open until 8 December, and respondents are expected to deliver a business support program which is delivered over weeks or months and concludes by 30 June 2026.

This project aligns with the City's 10-year economic development plan, Geelong on the Rise, which provides a roadmap for Geelong’s evolution, moving towards a $27 billion economy and 55,000 new jobs by 2041.

Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM said Geelong had considerable economic potential.

Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj:

Our city has a rich history of innovation, entrepreneurial spirit and technological advancement – it's now time for us to take the next step that will set us up for success on the global stage for generations to come.

There are lots of people out there with business ideas but no idea on how to get started – these programs will facilitate that, while also encouraging existing businesses to thrive.

Economic Development portfolio chair Councillor Trent Sullivan encouraged local providers to apply.

Councillor Trent Sullivan:

We want providers who have clever ideas on how to educate the local business community on how to start or grow a business.

In particular, it would be amazing to see new ideas on how to deliver this content to the community in a way that we haven't seen before, which will engage a new cohort of people to develop their business skills.
