Council notes Our Community Plan December Quarterly Report

Tuesday, 1st April 2025

The City of Greater Geelong Council noted the Our Community Plan Quarterly Report for December 2024 at this week’s council meeting.

Our Community Plan 2021–2025 is Council’s key strategic document which identifies the outcomes and priorities Council will focus its efforts on over the four years, to ensure the social, economic and environmental sustainability of our region.

Our Community Plan is supported by an annual budget and action plan which outlines the actions taking place in 2024–25.

This quarterly report provides progress on the work we are undertaking to improve equity, access, and inclusion for all.

At the end of December 2024, 51 of the 58 actions were ‘on track’.

The two actions completed were:

  • the renewal of the John Landy Field athletics track to world Athletics Class 2 accreditation
  • the implementation of the new governance structure and framework for informal meetings of Council.

Our Community Plan 2021–2025 recognises the importance of social equity, access and inclusion as a key priority area contributing to the long-term sustainability of our community.

The City’s activities are guided by the Our Community Plan 2021–2025 which was adopted in accordance with the Local Government Act 2020 and implementation is monitored via the quarterly and annual reports.

Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM

It’s fantastic to see the majority of actions on track for completion.

As we progress through the Our Community Plan, we are proud to see 51 out of 58 actions on track, demonstrating our dedication to a vibrant and sustainable community.

Councillor Eddy Kontelj, chair of the Sports & Recreation portfolio

The renewal of the John Landy Field athletics track and the new governance framework are just two examples of how our Council is actively working towards creating lasting change for all residents.

Monitoring progress through quarterly reports ensures that the Council stays accountable to its strategic goals, creating a transparent path towards long-term social, economic, and environmental sustainability.
