Exciting plans for The Hill Mountain Bike Park in Newtown Corio’s Stead Park Dirt Jumps and the Waurn Ponds Dirt Jumps in Grovedale are now a step closer.

We’ve released draft concept plans for a refresh of these facilities inviting mountain bike and BMX riders to let us know if we’ve captured their thoughts from the first round of engagement or if we’ve missed anything.

Our trail designers World Trail are focused on making the three tracks more engaging and challenging for beginner intermediate and advanced riders. Proposed features include:

Waurn Ponds Dirt Jumps

  • Genuine advanced jumps with reinforced jump ramps and features for continued progression.
  • Timber wall ride at end of jumps lines.
  • Higher start mound.
  • Improved landscaping to make area more inviting for everyone.
  • Designated beginner area featuring rollers and berms.

The Hill Mountain Bike Park

  • Genuine advanced jumps with reinforced jump ramps and features for continued progression.
  • Improved site layout to remove points of conflict and make movement through site more intuitive.
  • Designated beginner and spectator areas for parents/guardians.

Stead Park Dirt Jumps

  • Redesign of jumps using more of the available area.
  • Jumps with genuine intermediate and advanced features such as transition shark fin and gap jumps.
  • Beginner bumps/skills circuit.

Some of the community’s ideas for the parks didn’t fit into the budget for this round of renewal but will form part of future stages as funding becomes available including:

  • Small asphalt pump track drinking water and shelter at Waurn Ponds.
  • Asphalt pump track development of unused grassed area for extended jumps lines and/or intermediate-advanced flow trails toilets and shorter beginner skills loops at The Hill.

Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM

The community’s feedback is pivotal to ensuring The Hill Stead Park and Waurn Ponds dirt jumps are functional fit for purpose and rideable.

A big thank you to our mountain bike and BMX community including parents for their insightful feedback on how to improve these facilities.

Let us know if the proposed plans meet your needs and expectations and if there’s anything that has been left out.

Councillor Eddy Kontelj

The proposed changes are designed to make the trails more challenging fun and safe.

The City will collate and consider all responses from this second round of consultation as they finalise the designs.

Construction works will be rolled out over several years funded through renewal funding future council budgets and external grants.
