KT Wiz baseball players have arrived in Geelong for the side’s 2026 summer training camp and toured the City’s $800 000 redevelopment of Geelong Baseball Centre’s Diamond One this week.

Team officials met with Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM ahead of the six-week intensive program delivered in partnership with the City Melbourne Aces Baseball Club Geelong Baycats Baseball Club and East Belmont Saints Baseball Club.

Last year’s highly successful summer camp saw 85 players coaching staff and team members from Korea call Greater Geelong home injecting a massive $1.6 million into our local economy and supporting 75 local jobs.

The City’s major upgrades to Diamond One ensure national compliance to baseball infrastructure standards allow for more community state and multinational training and competition to take place and lessen maintenance and resource requirements.

They include:

  • Installation of a complete irrigation system for infield and outfield including water connection pumps and tanks.
  • Implementation of a drainage network in high-traffic areas and infield.
  • New timber edging to the red scoria rock areas.
  • Base plates reinstalled.
  • Correction of surface levels.
  • Adjustment to the warning track.
  • Installation of warm-season couch grass.
  • Removal of organic material from natural turf areas.

Arrangements are being finalised for a community day on Sunday 8 February allowing fans the chance to get up close and personal with the players. Keep an eye out for details on the City’s social media and Events Geelong.

Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM

The region will again embrace the Korean Baseball Organisation (KBO) premier league players.

It’s fantastic to welcome back 80 players coaches and staff to our region for the 2026 summer training camp.

They’ll benefit from the Council-funded $800 000 Diamond One redevelopment as well as the other high standard facilities at our Geelong Baseball Centre.

Outside of training the team will once again enjoy our golf courses and beaches try the local cuisine and support local businesses.

We hope that after another successful summer program we’ll be able to enter into a more longer-term partnership with KT Wiz for training in Geelong.

Councillor Andrew Katos

Council’s redevelopment of Diamond One will have far reaching benefits.

The main diamond at the Geelong Baseball Centre is the premier baseball field in our region hosting local competitions elite tournaments and international events.

The City recognises the importance of promoting baseball in Geelong and Australia and it’s critical that the playing surface at this showcase venue meets high standards for safety performance and presentation.

Our partnership with KT Wiz supports investment into the Geelong Baseball Centre and enhances the image and profile of the Geelong region as a sporting and tourism hub.
