The City of Greater Geelong is seeking community feedback on eight local playgrounds that will be renewed as part of the City's annual playground renewal program.
The community is invited to share their thoughts on the proposed playground plans through a Have Your Say survey available from 27 February until 5pm 27 March 2024.
In accordance with the City's Play Strategy, the renewal program will make sure each of the following local playgrounds has somewhere for visitors to run, swing, slide and climb, as well as an update of the existing play equipment:
- Detroit Reserve, Corio
- Talona Reserve, Corio
- Janet Reserve, Newcomb
- Lancaster Reserve, Newcomb
- Sundial Reserve, Clifton Springs
- Empress Reserve, Ocean Grove (swing installation only)
- Waurn Ponds Tennis Reserve, Waurn Ponds
- Ceres Recreation Reserve, Ceres
Greater Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan
The aim of the community engagement was to build awareness of the renewal program and gain insights from the community about their preferences.
The City’s play spaces are valued and popular destinations for families to visit and enjoy.
The Have Your Say feedback is important in helping the City to create play spaces that reflect the best interests of the community, particularly our youngest residents.
Councillor Elise Wilkinson, deputy chair of the Active Spaces portfolio
Council is committed to ensuring the play spaces meet community expectation.
We understand the importance of providing play spaces that are easily accessible to residents, and include equipment that is both entertaining and testing, while maintaining high and safe Australian standards.
There are currently over 380 public play spaces managed and maintained by the City of Greater Geelong that are reassessed annually on a monitored playground upgrade schedule.
The installation of the new playgrounds is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2024.
