Spring is the time of year when nature puts on its best show, so why not attend one or more of the activities we have planned for Nature Week and renew your connection with Geelong's amazing wildlife.

This October is packed full of activities to get you out in nature. Places are limited so click on the event links below for details and to book your spot. 

  • Geelong Waterfront Safari - 10 am Saturday, 10 October 2026. 

    Discover the hidden ecosystem within one of Geelong's most visited tourist attractions.

  • Designing With Nature - 2 pm Saturday, 10 October 2026. 

    Designing with Nature is an afternoon of short talks exploring how we can shape our cities, homes, and gardens in harmony with the natural world.

  • Barwon Platypus Hunt - 8 am Monday, 12 October 2026.

    Meet on the Barwon River for an early morning walk and talk, on the trail of our much loved, but elusive, platypus.

  • Wildflower Wandering in St Leonards - 1:30 pm Tuesday, 13 October 2026.

    Take a stroll around Charles McCarthy Reserve, St Leonards in search of rare wildflowers.

  • Native Grassland Bus Tour - 11:30 am Wednesday, 14 October 2026. 

    Join us as we visit 3 precious native grassland fragments managed by the City, and discover the endangered plants and animals that inhabit them.

  • Meet Geelong's Flying-foxes - 5:30 pm Wednesday, 14 October 2026. 

    Take a tour of the Eastern Park Flying-fox camp to discover more about these adorable, yet quirky, creatures and what the City is doing to help their cherished colony thrive.  

  • Balyang Sanctuary Bird Hunt - 5:30 pm, Tuesday 20 October 2026.

    Join the Geelong Field Naturalists Club on a bird spotting adventure around Balyang Sanctuary wetland.

  • Nature's Halloween Craft Party - 10 am, Saturday 24 October 2026 

    Kids celebrate Halloween the Aussie way by creating their own wildlife friendly decorations.

  • Gardens for Wildlife Workshop (Spring) - 10 am, Saturday 24 October 2026.

    Join the Geelong Gardens for Wildlife volunteers for a fun, practical, and inspiring workshop where you'll learn how to design a garden that supports local wildlife while creating a beautiful outdoor space you'll love.
