Global Hub open for international business

Located at the Wurriki Nyal Civic Precinct, the City’s Global Hub provides a central location to bring business, industry, government, and diplomatic leaders together to facilitate opportunities for international relations and partnerships.
Since December, the City has hosted international delegations from Japan, Korea, and China, plus convened the three-day Geelong-India Collaborative Futures Forum and the National Indian Film Festival of Australia.
These bilateral international relationships are strengthening our economy and the strategic goal to have Geelong achieve global recognition as a Clever, Creative City – the place to live, learn and do business.
A Global Hub will enable the City to continue to improve its commitment to advancing international collaboration by offering a convenient office and meeting space for visiting diplomats, dignitaries, and delegations.
The working space will operate as a base for Advanced Fibre Cluster Geelong to support and progress the industry-led organisation’s international industry growth – including its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Trade Centre in New Orleans.
The hub will also be available to a range of agencies and business leaders requiring a central meeting space – including the Geelong Manufacturing Council, Geelong Chamber of Commerce, Cultura, Global Victoria and Invest Victoria.
With 18 per cent of our residents born overseas, the Global Hub will deliver economic and community-based benefits by providing a dedicated space to grow business opportunities, plan events, forge lasting partnerships, and design leading educational opportunities.
Establishing a space to welcome more business, industry and community stakeholders to Wurriki Nyal, builds on its Traditional Owner name, which means “speak and talk together”; a place to gather and connect.
The Global Hub opening was attended by the Consul-General of Japan in Melbourne Mr Furuya Tokuro, US Consulate General in Melbourne Head of Public Affairs Brian Bauer and business, industry and government leaders.
Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM
International engagement and collaboration play an important role in boosting our region’s economy.
We’ve already seen how having an international port and an expanding airport means more jobs for local people.
The opening of the Global Hub provides further opportunities to build on bi-lateral international relationships that will deliver significant economic benefits.
City of Greater Geelong chief executive Ali Wastie
Geelong has been a multi-cultural city for decades and will continue to evolve on the world stage, supported by all levels of government, educators, industry and key organisations like Cultura.
I also welcome the opportunity to bring more business, industry, government and diplomatic leaders into Wurriki Nyal; our civic precinct is ideally positioned for people to come together and speak together, as its name says, with great benefits for our broader community of bilateral collaboration.
Advanced Fibre Cluster Geelong chief executive David Buchanan
The Global Hub will provide a central meeting point for industry, government, universities and international partners to connect, collaborate and convert opportunities into real projects.
For the Cluster, it means we can better support inbound delegations, trade missions and strategic partnerships with countries such as the USA, Japan, Korea and India, markets that are critical to the next stage of advanced manufacturing growth.
