Help shape our Special Rates and Charges Policy

Thursday, 23rd October 2025
The City of Greater Geelong is seeking community input on an update to the Special Rates and Charges (SRC) Policy to ensure it is clear practical and easy to understand.

The policy was created to support community requests for infrastructure upgrades and increased service levels that are outside the City’s budget and standard service provisions.

SRC schemes are a shared funding model between the City and benefiting property owners enabling faster delivery of local infrastructure and services such as sealed roads footpaths kerbs and channels and stormwater drains.

The draft policy sets out the framework for how the City will use these schemes as legislated under Section 163 of the Local Government Act 1989.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM

Our current policy was developed in 2021. It’s time for a refresh to meet the needs and expectations of our community.

We must ensure the updated policy is grounded in community input and values.

The rollout of these schemes is guided by residents at each step of the process so it’s important the community is involved from the start to shape the policy.

Finance portfolio chair Councillor Andrew Katos

Financial pressure on council budgets makes it impossible to meet all community expectations for infrastructure and services within a reasonable timeframe.

These schemes are designed to generate the funding necessary to deliver on community requests to specific areas where they aren’t currently available or provided.

I encourage residents to complete the survey and have their say.
Community engagement is open until 5 pm Wednesday 5 November. To leave feedback visit Have Your Say.
