How you can help people in Afghanistan and your local Afghan community

It’s been over a year since we first saw the terrifying scenes out of Kabul and the ongoing reports of the deteriorating situation as Afghanistan fell under Taliban control. This has left many people in Australia feeling helpless and overwhelmed by the enormity of the situation.

The City has issued a statement standing in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and the global community in calling for peace. The City continues to work closely with Cultura (formerly Diversitat), local organisations and Afghan community leaders.

We understand community members want to help and there are some things you can do, locally and internationally, to support those most impacted.

The Afghan Hazara Community Group Inc. in Geelong is a registered body in Geelong and has established a Go Fund Me fundraiser, which aims to raise critical funds to support at risk and displaced families in Afghanistan with shelter, food and medical assistance.

With many humanitarian organisations forced to flee or unable to operate in Afghanistan at this time, there are few currently on the ground.
