The City of Greater Geelong has co-signed a new infrastructure plan with the Victorian Government to help the region’s youngest learners get the best start to life.

Based on local knowledge and demographic trends, the Kindergarten Infrastructure and Services Plan (KISP) provides a clear picture of infrastructure demand for the next decade across Greater Geelong.

The City and early learning providers can use the infrastructure plan and growth estimates to assess community needs and guide activities such as service planning, kindergarten program expansion, infrastructure investments and funding applications.

The KISP supports the Victorian Government’s Best Start, Best Life reforms, which will see kindergarten hours doubled for children in the year before they commence school, giving families more access to high-quality early learning.

The signing of the plan signifies a joint achievement between the City and the Victorian Government, highlighting a strong partnership and a shared commitment to improving access to services and setting a leading example for the sector.

Several key kindergarten infrastructure projects are already underway, including the Yirrama Community Hub, a purpose-built facility offering kindergarten services, maternal and child health, allied health, and multipurpose community spaces at Charlemont.

These projects are part of a coordinated effort to support population increases in high-growth areas and to offer families convenient, integrated service models.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM

Greater Geelong is a wonderful place to raise children.

The Kindergarten Infrastructure and Services Plan will help us better understand community needs and ensure that we can plan for services that continue to maintain our current high standards.

Councillor Andrew Katos, Chair of the City Planning portfolio

As more people choose our region as their place to call home, we need to make sure our infrastructure keeps up.

To do this, we need a clear picture of what the community needs, and where.

The Kindergarten Infrastructure and Services Plan will help us do exactly that and ensure our smallest residents have spaces where they can learn and grow.
