The Leopold community is celebrating the official opening of major upgrades at Leopold Memorial Reserve, delivered to support growing participation in local sport and to create a more inclusive and accessible precinct for everyone.

Delivered through a $3.25 million investment from the Australian Government’s Investing in Our Communities program, the upgrades include:

  • new multi-purpose sports courts and netball warm-up court
  • modern changerooms
  • internal toilet facilities for the Scout Hall
  • upgraded cricket practice nets
  • new car parking and pathways
  • improved lighting and CCTV
  • a new electronic scoreboard
  • AFL-compliant player benches
  • restoration and relocation of the historic Leopold Memorial Arch.

These works replace ageing and non-compliant facilities and give local clubs the space and infrastructure they need to grow. The upgrades will support more women and girls to take part in sport and strengthen the reserve as a regional sporting hub.

Federal Member for Corangamite Libby Coker MP

Leopold Memorial Reserve is one of the most important community sporting precincts in our region, with local football, netball and cricket clubs, Scouts, volunteers and families all making use of this space throughout the year.

This is an incredible transformation and it's fantastic to see these upgrades officially opened for the community.

We worked so closely with the clubs and user groups throughout this project to understand what was needed and make sure this investment delivered facilities that will serve Leopold well into the future.

The reality is that many of the facilities were ageing, outdated and no longer meeting the needs of a growing community - local clubs had outgrown the infrastructure and deserved better.

Now they have modern changerooms, upgraded sporting facilities, better lighting, improved accessibility and safer community spaces that reflect the importance of this precinct to Leopold.

These new facilities will make a real difference for the thousands of people who use the reserve each year and will help create more opportunities for women and girls to get involved in sport.

The Albanese Government invested $3.25 million to deliver these upgrades because strong local clubs help build strong communities.

This is a fantastic outcome for Leopold and an investment that will support local sport, community connection and participation for decades to come.

Leopold Ward Councillor Trent Sullivan

Leopold Memorial Reserve is a place that brings people together for a range of activities, whether it’s to play sport, be involved in the Scouts, visit the war memorial, or to connect with friends,” Cr Sullivan said.

These upgrades will support the clubs for many years to come and help more people get active and involved, particularly women and girls.

This investment has given the Leopold community the modern, safe and inclusive facilities they deserve.
