Designed by artist Bradley Eastman (Beastman), the works will see Moorabool Street set a new standard for public road artwork in Australia, with a detailed installation representing the Moorabool River and Geelong's landscape and evolving cultural identity. 

Additionally, the installation will be made from 1.4 tonnes of recycled glass, the equivalent of 6,860 beer bottles, diverted from Victorian landfills.

The median artwork installation will be complemented by a comprehensive lighting upgrade, with 53 lights to be upgraded and a repurposing of existing infrastructure.

The enhanced lighting system will be able to light the street in different colours to acknowledge significant events.

Works will be undertaken at night over two weeks in May and June to minimise the disruption to road users and businesses.

I've often spoken about how Central Geelong has a lot to offer, but we've had issues with its core for a long time.

This incredible artwork and lighting upgrade will now make meaningful steps towards our City's core being something that we can all be proud of and show off to national and international visitors using the new convention centre.

The work by Beastman, which effectively brings inspiration from the Moorabool River to Moorabool Street, is a brilliant idea, and I can't wait to see it installed next month.

I am excited to be the artist tasked with injecting colour and vibrancy into Moorabool Street, for me this artwork is about collaborating with the existing built environment and creating a visual connection between Geelong’s natural history, its evolving urban landscape and the movement of people through the city every day.

I want the artwork to feel energetic and rhythmic, like a current running through Moorabool Street, while also reflecting the layered stories and natural landscapes that have shaped the Greater Geelong area over time. 

I’m passionate about bringing my artwork and visual language to new audiences in regional and remote communities, this project continues to expand my growing body of public artworks across Australia.
