New netball court and upgraded facilities open at Anakie Reserve

Upgraded netball facilities have been officially opened at Anakie Reserve home of the Anakie Football and Netball Club.
The upgrade includes an extra netball court with lighting shelter and fencing and was funded by the Australian and Victorian governments in partnership with the City.
The additional court will allow more participation from community members of all ages while facilitating safer training and play supporting the club to grow its membership base.
Further infrastructure upgrades including the new lighting will promote a safer playing and training environment in all conditions.
The facilities were officially opened by You Yangs Ward Councillor Chris Burson Federal Member for Corio The Hon Richard Marles MP State Member for Lara Ella George MP and Anakie Football and Netball Club President Heath Menhennet.
By bringing the club facilities up to a similar standard to other clubs across Greater Geelong the Anakie Football and Netball Club will be able to provide more court time for all grades including the club's NetSetGo children’s program supporting player development and leading to a stronger senior program in the longer term.
The update was funded with $267 867 from Phase Three of the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program and $197 133 from Round Two of the Victorian Government’s Country Football and Netball Program along with $41 774 from the City.
