The Roslyn Road/Thornhill Road intersection in Highton is being upgraded with a new roundabout and raised pedestrian crossings to improve traffic flow and make the area safer for all road users. The intersection was initially earmarked for traffic signals in the 2024-25 Budget. However, as intersection analysis and design commenced, a roundabout upgrade proved to provide less delay and better vehicle flow compared to traffic signals – whilst also providing safe pedestrian crossing points with raised crossings. A copy of the design drawing is provided.

Construction is underway and is expected to finish in early May.

To allow the works to be completed safely and efficiently, the intersection will be temporarily closed from 4 February to early April. Detours will be in place, supported by traffic management and signage. The community is encouraged to allow extra travel time or consider alternative routes.

Additional works will also improve the footpath on the west side of Thornhill Road, from Pepperdine Way to Roslyn Road, allowing safer and more connected pedestrian access.

These essential upgrades will help reduce the risk of crashes and improve traffic flow through Highton, which is a great outcome for the community.

The new pedestrian crossings will also make the area safer and more connected for everyone.

With its proximity to Highton Primary School, this intersection will encourage students to walk safely to school, minimising traffic during peak pick up and drop off times.

It may take a little longer to detour around the intersection during construction, so we encourage everyone to allow a bit of extra travel time.
