Opportunity to have a positive impact on young people

Are you a fully licensed driver over 21 in Greater Geelong and interested in assisting young people to overcome barriers and gain their P-plates?
We need your expertise as part of the L2P Program to help L-platers who have no access to a supervising driver or car get their Ps.
In the last financial year, our 110 volunteers contributed to 76 drivers passing their probationary licence tests. A total of 612 drivers have become P-platers in the program’s 16 years of operating in the region.
The community-based program is funded by the TAC, administered by the Department of Transport, and coordinated by the City of Greater Geelong.
Successful volunteers would need to be able to commit 1-2 hours a week to support young people, generally aged between 16 to 21, gain experience behind the wheel. Vehicles and training (later this month) are provided.

Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM
The TAC L2P Program has made a tangible difference in young people’s lives by teaching them to be safe and attentive drivers.
We are looking for enthusiastic and patient drivers who can mentor young drivers through the time-consuming challenge and milestone of gaining their P-plates.
Many of us would remember how gaining your Ps is a ticket to independence and freedom - this is your chance to be part of that journey for a young person in a safe and supportive environment.
Volunteer driver mentor Sheridan Daniels
Volunteering as a driving mentor with Geelong's L2P program has been both rewarding and fulfilling.
Working one-on-one with young people and supporting them in achieving their goals, gaining insight into their life experience and challenges, observing their development in confidence and self-belief, and promoting safe driving practices represents a valuable contribution to our community.
I've found a lot of inspiration in building trusted relationships with the learners, and well as the ongoing training and development opportunities to build my skills and connect with other volunteers.
I encourage more members of the Geelong community to consider becoming mentors with the L2P program.
You might find that you gain so much more than you give.
