Thursday, 4th December 2025
Armstrong Creek families are set to enjoy a new sports and recreation hub with Council approving the Coastside Drive Recreation Reserve Master Plan.

Covering about 13.5 hectares at 530 Horseshoe Bend Road Armstrong Creek; the reserve will provide a playground sports fields and community spaces to one of the fastest-growing areas in the region.

Construction is expected to cost approximately $17.7 million and is a vital piece of the Armstrong Creek East Precinct Structure Plan.

Some of the facilities proposed include:
  • play space with a sheltered barbeque and picnic area
  • multi-use sports fields
  • community sports pavilion
  • car park with approximately 150 spaces
  • shared pathway winding through the reserve’s significant native vegetation.

In July 2025 Council invited the community to have their say on the draft master plan. Over 2 500 people viewed the plan on the City’s website and 292 contributions were received. Feedback showed strong support and updates were made to reflect the community’s input.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM

This reserve will be a real boost for community health and wellbeing.

Armstrong Creek is full of young families so we’re planning spaces that grow with them – from playgrounds for kids to sports fields for teens and young adults.

Charlemont Ward Councillor Emma Sinclair

We asked the community what they thought and their feedback helped shape the final plan.

This will be an inclusive space with something for everyone – whether it’s sporting clubs playing games families enjoying a picnic or friends meeting at the playground.

The master plan was guided by a Project Reference Group (PRG) which included representatives from key sporting associations and a local ports club.

Construction is scheduled to commence in 2027 with completion expected in 2028.
