Poppy Kettle Playground set for repair

One of Geelong’s most loved free children’s attractions Poppy Kettle Playground will soon close temporarily as the popular play space undergoes significant repair works.
Situated on the Geelong waterfront to the west of Cunningham Pier Poppy Kettle Playground is packed with children’s play equipment and picnic amenities while only being a short walk from waterfront cafes the iconic Carousel and the City’s colourful bollard trail walk.
Parts of the playground have already been closed due to impending maintenance works; however the planned on-site action means the whole play space will soon close for a period of time.
It’s expected the work which includes the installation of a new slide will begin in November.
Poppy Kettle Playground is well known for the interactive Poppy Kettle water fountains and miniature statues situated among a rock area.
This unique feature was inspired by the children’s book ‘Voyage of the Poppy Kettle’ written by local author Robert Ingpen giving the park a magical quality and proving a source of attraction for many visiting children.
The interactive play equipment includes a multi-coloured tubular slide that winds down the hill a dragon emerging from the ground a timber tower swing boat atop the sand pit bouncers and a unique pyramid climbing net.
During the summer months the slide area has additional water play features.
