The roundabout at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and North Valley Road in Highton will undergo a safety upgrade to install raised pedestrian crossings on all four approaches. 

Funded through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program at a cost of $495,000, the upgrade will enhance pedestrian access and connectivity, improve safety for both pedestrians and motorists, slow vehicle speeds and increase driver awareness. 

As part of the works, the speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h to further improve safety and reduce crash risk. 

Construction is scheduled to begin on 13 January and is expected to be finished by the end of February.  To allow the works to be completed safely and efficiently, the intersection will be temporarily closed during work hours. Traffic management and signage will be in place to assist road users. 

Black Spot projects aim to reduce serious injuries and fatalities at locations with a history of accidents.

This upgrade will make it easier and safer for people to move around Highton, whether they’re walking, driving or cycling.
